Random thoughts

Well now, that was a week! My students were crazy, my teaching partner suddenly had to take couple of days off, what I thought were allergies turned out to be my annual Springtime Head cold, and, to top it off, my childhood neighbour was arrested for possessing and accessing child p*&^! I mean, What the Actual F!

I am used to my students being crazy in the springtime, but this past week was a whole new ball game. These kids are flat out crazy! They don't seem capable to not talking, they don't seem phased by any sort of consequence, and rewards don't really work either! It's absolutely insane. Both my teaching partner and myself are at our wits end.

As stated in the first paragraph, my teaching partner suddenly had to take a couple of days off because her daughter's car broke down on the way home from university. Mom to the rescue! Unfortunately for me, that meant finishing the crazy week without her across the hall to help manage the crazy.

Wednesday night my mother dropped the bomb about the childhood neighbour being charged. This sent me reeling and feeling somewhat zombie-like for the duration of Thursday.  Fortunately for me, the news broke in the media during the day on Thursday which meant that I could have some small conversations with my co-workers. Talking doesn't really make it any easier to process, but at least I feel slightly less alone and like I don't have to process the information on my own.  It has most definitely been difficult in that I have known this individual throughout his entire life! I was 16 when I first babysat him, and he has always been a part of my life. Now I'm not sure that I want him to be part of my life. It's a very, very difficult situation and I have no idea how to handle it.

Finally, throughout the week, I thought that I had developed seasonal allergies. Well, it would seem that I actually have  a cold. Runny, stuffy nose, cough, heavy chest, the whole shebang! So much fun. I blame the little germ-meisters whom I teach, along with the stressful news about my neighbour. I can't help but think that without the added stress, I would have fought off this stupid cold!  Because of it, I missed a great OECTA workshop in Ottawa, which also meant that I didn't get to see Laura, Cherylene, Steve, Dawn, etc.  Oh well, there's always next time.

For now, I think I shall see what's up in the land of dinner and move on with the rest of my day!
