Noom and a LONG walk

A little over a week ago, I began a 2 week trial of Noom - a psychology based weight loss app. So far, while learning very little that is new to me, the app has made me think a little more about what I'm eating and when. I'm thinking more about how much water foods contain (caloric density) along with calories and fibre. I often forget how much I actually already know about nutrition and I simply need to apply that knowledge. It has been a slow start, but I know that by changing my eating habits I will succeed. I believe in myself and it is time for a change. I must now begin to move my body on a more regular basis, also a challenging task for me but again, I believe in me! Along with signing up for Noom, I have registered to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society by participating, with Angel, in their August 50 km dog walk! Throughout the month of August, Angel and I will walk a total of 50 km. I have set a goal of $500.00 and will work toward encouraging people to donat...

A beautiful soul - 1 year later

May 21st, 2022. The world lost one of the most beautiful souls ever to grace us with her presence.  Joanne Labelle - wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, neighbour, friend, pharmacist extraordinaire. Tragically, her life was cut short when a "Derecho" blew through Apsley, ON where she was camping on friends' property. She was on her way from the camper to the house to be safely sheltered from the storm when a large tree fell on her. She never had a chance. She was rushed to the air ambulance, but never made it to the hospital. All of her family and friends were absolutely stunned. No one could truly comprehend, in that moment, the loss which we had all just suffered. Jo was an angel on Earth. She always had time for anyone who needed a friend, professional advice, or simply a book recommendation. She somehow managed to do, and have, it all.  Yesterday and today, I found myself reflecting on how I have been impacted by Jo's absence. For me i...

Field Trips and End of Year

'Tis the season for field trips! So far, Lorrie and I have taken our kids to Lamoureux Park/Splashpad and the Aquatic Centre and today we went to the Native North American Traveling College on Cornwall Island. What an amazing experience! I was quite fearful, when booking our trip to the NNATC, that it wouldn't be engaging enough for the kids or they simply wouldn't like the experience and would act as such. I could not  have been more wrong! Smiles were everywhere and kids were excited to see artifacts, displays, and learn the creation story. They listened to our hosts and enjoyed exploring the items which were presented to them. While I would have liked to have seen more hands-on activities, for the hour and a half for which we were there, what was presented to us was fantastic! I strongly recommend that anyone and everyone take a trip over to the island and explore what the NNATC has to offer.  Next up, next week, a trip to the Aquatic Centre (maybe picnic lunch first...

Employment

Ugh! For more than 12 months, Hugh has been applying to every job for which he is qualified and physically able to do. Hundreds of applications, several interviews, and NOTHING!!! Even Winners claims that they have nothing for which he is qualified. RIDICULOUS! I am becoming more and more frustrated (I can't even fathom how he must be feeling) and angrier and angrier. As if there is nothing in this city for which he is qualified! He has only ever worked retail and is amazing at it! He loves customer service! I have absolutely no doubt that most of it is quite simply age discrimination. I have no idea how to prove it, but it is the only thing that makes any sense. The other thing which is becoming increasingly frustrating is hearing that everyone is hiring but no one wants to work!!! REALLY???  REALLY?!?!?! THEN WHY HAS MY HUSBAND BEEN LOOKING FOR WHAT FEELS LIKE FOREVER WITH NO LUCK! sigh I, fortunately, have an amazing job which pays me quite well, however, I cannot keep us afloa...

Random thoughts

Well now, that was a week! My students were crazy, my teaching partner suddenly had to take couple of days off, what I thought were allergies turned out to be my annual Springtime Head cold, and, to top it off, my childhood neighbour was arrested for possessing and accessing child p*&^! I mean, What the Actual F! I am used to my students being crazy in the springtime, but this past week was a whole new ball game. These kids are flat out crazy! They don't seem capable to not talking, they don't seem phased by any sort of consequence, and rewards don't really work either! It's absolutely insane. Both my teaching partner and myself are at our wits end.  As stated in the first paragraph, my teaching partner suddenly had to take a couple of days off because her daughter's car broke down on the way home from university. Mom to the rescue! Unfortunately for me, that meant finishing the crazy week without her across the hall to help manage the crazy.  Wednesday night my...
